EDMONDS — Yes, the name of Jeff Bridges’ band is The Abiders, and The Dude did abide in Bridges’ 1998 movie “The Big Lebowski.”
But Bridges is not The Dude.
One of America’s most admired screen actors, he also is a serious musician.
He’s been singing most of his life. He and his brother Beau played dueling pianos in the 1989 movie “The Fabulous Baker Boys.” Bridges released a solo album “Be Here Soon” in 2000 and an album with the band in 2011. And that Bridges is a decent guitarist was proved in his Oscar-winning performance as country singer Bad Blake in the 2009 film “Crazy Heart.”
Jeff Bridges &The Abiders are on tour now in support of their new self-titled live album.
They return to the Puget Sound area with a performance at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Edmonds Center for the Arts. By the time you read this, the show could be sold out, but it’s worth checking.
The new live album has a country music feel, but includes good old rock ‘n’ roll covers. Included are tunes from “Crazy Heart” and tunes from The Byrds, Tom Waits and Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Jeff Bridges &The Abiders are Bridges (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Chris Pelonis (guitar, keyboards, vocals), Bill Flores (pedal steel, guitar), Randy Tico (upright, electric bass), and Tom Lackner (drums, percussion).
This year, Bridges also released “The Giver,” an adaptation of the Lois Lowry science fiction drama, which he co-produced and starred in.
His other film work includes “The Last Picture Show,” “The Iceman Cometh,” “Thunderbolt and Lightfoot,” “Rancho Deluxe,” “Tron,” “Starman, “Tucker,” “The Fisher King,” “American Heart,” “Fearless” and “True Grit.”
