Though it is Christmas Day, it’s time to look ahead: Out with Santa, in with some winter fireworks — two local events planned for ringing in 2010 are specifically geared for kids.
First, it’s the “Rock’n New Year’s Eve Daytime Party” at Imagine Children’s Museum, 1502 Wall St., Everett. From noon to 4 p.m. Thursday, visitors can keep busy with New Year’s-oriented crafts projects like 2010 eyeglasses and “party poppers,” which event organizers described as wrapped party favors filled with small treats.
Under a “Celebrate New Year’s Around the World” theme, museum-goers will learn about clothing, books, music and dance from Germany, Russia, Mexico, India and the United States. Each hour of the event highlights a different country.
Face painting and balloon sculpture also are planned.
“Rock’n New Year’s Eve” is included with admission of $7.50 for those over age 1. Details are at 425-258-1006 and www.imaginecm.org.
Then, farther south, kids will find a New Year’s slumber party designed just for them.
After being dropped off at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Pacific Science Center, 200 Second Ave. N., Seattle, second- through sixth-graders can make liquid nitrogen ice cream, build rockets and watch the Space Needle’s fireworks show. Pick-up time is 9 a.m. Jan. 1.
The slumber party costs $90 for Pacific Science Center members, $110 for nonmembers. A $15 discount applies to siblings. Call 206-443-2925 to register through Wednesday, and see www.pacificsciencecenter.org for details.
