Kids’ music shines at Everett Mall

If you go shopping this weekend at Everett Mall, hunt out the children’s play area. You’ll find Lisa Allison and Linda Sebenius, acclaimed musicians and the driving force behind the children’s music company, Let Your Music Shine.

There, your children can enjoy some great tunes while developing an appreciation of music.

As Allison explained, “we pride ourselves on our engagement factor.”

With stuffed animals and puppets, Let Your Music Shine makes music accessible to the under-7 set with messages that are upbeat, positive and empowering, Allison said.

And it’s a blast.

“It’s designed to bring the audience into the experience with movement and singing,” Allison said. “And gosh, the music is pretty catchy.”

With a long history in music education, the sisters have created a company known for bringing good music to a young audience.

Allison is a voice and performance coach and Sebenius is a composer, lead orchestrator and arranger. Together they teach about instruments, rhythm, melody and all sorts of other musical concepts.

Allison and Sebenius have produced and presented more than 350 performances for young children. As composers, arrangers and producers, they have also won numerous awards for their DVDs and CDs.

Let Your Music Shine is being presented by the Everett Symphony, which received a grant from Boeing to bring this children’s program to the Everett Mall for free.

Though no symphony musicians are performing, Allison and Sebenius are classically trained on keyboards and also sing a cappella. Together they will perform 15-minute programs with original songs that are designed to entice the imagination and get the audience moving, clapping and singing.

The Imagine Children’s Museum is also bringing its Art Studio On The Go. Kids can get creative in a pre-show craft project by making a kooky kazoo with a smorgasbord of items provided, such as stickers, glitter and colorful yarn.

“Let Your Music Shine”
