Story times: Most branches offer free weekday story times for babies, toddlers and preschool kids. Go to www.sno-isle.org and click on “Events & Programs” for a detailed schedule.

Pajama story time, 7 p.m. Jan. 4, ages 2 to 5, Monroe branch, 1070 Village Way; 360-794-7851. Wear your pajamas for a cozy evening of stories and craft activities. Don’t forget your blanket and stuffed animal.

Lego challenge, 1 p.m. Jan. 8, ages 5 to 12, Mountlake Terrace branch, 23300 58th Ave. W.; 425-776-8722. Aspiring builders will work independently or in teams to compete in a special challenge. We’ll use books for inspiration and structural details. Parents are invited to participate with their children and share ideas, expertise and enthusiasm. Legos provided. Participants are also invited to bring projects from home to show and tell.

“Tale of Despereaux” family matinee, 3 to 4:45 p.m. Jan. 8, school-age kids, Darrington branch, 1005 Cascade St.; 360-436-1600. Little Despereaux the mouse is born tiny, wheezy and with comically oversized ears. His love for a princess leads him on adventures which involve an unhappy rat and a bumbling servant girl, in this beautifully crafted animated film, rated G.

Imagine Children’s Museum: 1502 Wall St., Everett; 425-258-1006; www.imaginecm.org. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. Closed Mondays. Admission is $7.75 or free for ages 12 months and younger. Free admission is offered from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on the third Friday of every month.

Play Patch, 9:30 to 11 a.m. Jan. 10, 24 and 31 and Feb. 7, for ages 18 months to 5 years. Adults and kids play together to learn art, science, movement and music. Play Patch kids also receive exclusive time in the museum. Cost for the four-week session is $55 for members, $65 for nonmembers and $25 for an additional sibling. Master puppeteer workshop, noon to 3 p.m. Jan. 16. Noel MacNeal, who played Bear in the Disney TV series “Bear in the Big Blue House” and Lionel on “Between the Lions,” will teach kids how to make some of the simple puppets from his new book, “10-Minute Puppets.” He will also bring some of his more advanced puppets to show off.

“Harry Potter: The Exhibition” through Jan. 30; see costume items from “Potter” films, explore the Quidditch area, encounter Buckbeak the hippogriff and more.

“Model Railroad Show,” Jan. 15 to 17; explore model railroad layouts through the science center, take a ride on the Iron Horse Railway under the center’s arches and make your own model scenery.

“Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination,” March 19 to May 8; see more than 80 authentic costumes, interactive displays, models and props from all six “Star Wars” film, and explore futuristic technologies found in the films and compare them with real-world scientific progress.

“Lyle the Crocodile,” various times through Jan. 9 for ages 5 and older; $15 to $37.

“Go, Dog. Go,” various times Jan. 13 through March 13 for ages 4 and older; $15 to $37.

Village Theatre Kidstage preschool arts adventure camps: 9:30 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Thursdays Jan. 4 to June 9, Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave.; 425-257-6371; www.villagetheatre.org. Cost is $150 per month and includes child admission to select theatre productions. Children learn about the arts of dance, music, visual art, drama and literature in a hands-on environment while practicing social and academic skills. Kids must be 4 years old by April 2011 and out of diapers.
