Learn how to play safely in the snow at rec classes

The Everett Parks and Recreation Department is offering snowshoeing instruction and introductory tours, as well as a cross-country skiing refresher course.

A two-hour lecture from 7 to 9 p.m. Dec. 19 at Lions Hall in Forest Park will cover what to wear, where to go and how to snowshoe safely. The fee is $9.

After completion of the introductory lesson, participants can go on an easy guided tour either Dec. 19 or Dec. 31, departing at 8 a.m. from Forest Park (destination to be determined).

Snowshoes and poles are provided, as is transportation. Fees are $38 for Dec. 23, $40 for Dec. 31 and $30 for ages 8 to 17 with a participating adult.

A one-day refresher Dec. 29 for skiers with some previous experience offers tips to develop more control on hills and efficiency of motion on flats. Transportation, trail pass and instruction are included. The group departs at 8 a.m. from Forest Park. The fee is $59.
