Leaving for Leavenworth: It’s not quite the Polar Express, but then Leavenworth doesn’t claim to be the North Pole.
Tickets are on sale now for Alki Tours’ Christmas Snow Train, which is scheduled to take passengers over Stevens Pass to the Bavarian-style village on Dec. 6, Dec. 13 or Dec. 20.
The all-day excursion begins with a morning ride on the train, which boards in Seattle, Edmonds and Everett. During the trip, entertainment is provided by strolling musicians, magicians and Santa Claus.
The train arrives in Leavenworth around 12:30 p.m., with passengers disembarking for an afternoon in the village. Shortly after dusk, once the lights go on in Leavenworth, passengers re-board for a catered dinner, served during the ride home.
Tickets often sell out in advance. They cost $149 for adults and $139 for children. An extra $70 allows passengers to upgrade to a glass-topped train car.
