Let’s Go

Take Fluffy and Spot to the Everett Animal Shelter today for a visit with the big man himself, Santa.

Benefiting the Animal Welfare Fund, pets are invited to jump up on Santa Paws’ lap for a couple of festive photos.

From 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., cats and dogs alike are invited to pose with St. Nick. For $14.95, volunteers will take five digital and two Polaroid photos of you and your pets.

Pets are required to be on leash or in a carrier.

Everett Animal Shelter is at 2732 36th St., Everett. For information, call 425-257-6000.

Everett Dance Theatre’s “A Storybook Nutcracker” opens at 7 p.m. today at the Everett Elks Club.

This version is designed specifically for children.

With adapted narration, “A Storybook Nutcracker” is much easier for children to understand and still enjoy. Everyone’s favorite characters, the Mouse King, Clara and the dancing dolls, still appear in the performance.

Participation is encouraged, as characters greet children in the audience throughout the performances.

Reserved seats are $10, $8 for children, military and seniors, through Everett Dance Theatre. Group rates are available.

Additional performances are at 2 p.m. Sunday, 9:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Elks Club, and 3 and 7 p.m. Dec. 6 at Everett Events Center Ballroom.

The Everett Elks Club is at 2731 Rucker Ave., Everett. For information, call 425-348-5955.

The Snohomish County Windjammers celebrate the season in four-part harmony at “A Pirate Christmas,” a holiday concert performed at 2 and 7 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church, 2938 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.

The chorus, one of the oldest choral groups in the county, is expert at barbershop-style singing, a style that will also be showcased by performances from 4 Cast and various barbershop quartets. Tickets are $10.

For information, call Norm Keck at 425-259-2383.

The city of Monroe hosts “Light Up Monroe,” its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony beginning at 5 p.m. today.

In addition to the tree lighting, Santa will arrive by fire truck to visit with children in the Fiddler’s Bluff Parking Lot.

Events also include caroling, pictures with Santa for the first 50 children and free hot apple cider.

Events take place in downtown Monroe at Main and Lewis streets.

Bring a nonperishable food item or make a cash donation to be entered in a special drawing.

For information, call the Monroe Chamber of Commerce at 360-794-5488.
