The “revolution” is coming – and it has a rap-rock sensibility, and questionable spelling skills.
For the fourth time, Linkin Park is taking its “Projekt Revolution” tour around the country and it comes to the Seattle area on Wednesday, with an all-day show at White River Amphitheatre in Auburn.
Linkin Park, the organizers of the event, have used it each time to further blur the line between rap and rock, which the band has successfully melded to create its own sound. Sharing the headlining duties are My Chemical Romance, which recently played the new WaMu Theatre in Seattle. Other bands include Taking Back Sunday, HIM, Mindless Self Indulgence and Saosin.
“I couldn’t be happier with the group of artists joining us on Projekt Revolution this summer,” Linkin Park co-vocalist Chester Bennington said in a press release. “Linkin Park is thrilled to be joined by this amazing group of artists and I know the audience will share in our excitement.”
Projekt Revolution artists of the past include Korn, Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill, Xhibit, Mudvayne, Adema, Blindside and DJ Z-Trip.
In response to various declarations of a global crisis, Linkin Park is making the tour a “green” one, and the tour will donate $1 from each ticket sold to American Forest for their Global Re-Leaf program, which plants trees to help reduce global temperatures.
Like most festival tours, Projekt Revolution has a slew of sponsors, but none more surprising than Major League Baseball. MLB’s “Access to the Show,” which is now in its fifth summer festival tour featuring the MLB Roadshow, is a high-tech tractor-trailer that’s designed to give fans a real baseball experience. This summer, the MLB Roadshow has already stopped at Bonaroo, Sasquatch and Wakarusa.
The MLB Roadshow aims to bring together two great American pastimes, live music and baseball, in a unique festival environment. Inside the truck, people can participate in pitching and batting cages, as well as kiosks with new video game titles.
Linkin Park is supporting its new album, “Minutes to Midnight,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart while selling 622,000 albums – the highest first-week sales total of any album this year. The album is being pushed by the hit single “What I’ve Done.”
“We’re shocked and humbled by this extraordinary show of support,” guitarist Brad Delson said in a press release. “We invested ourselves entirely into the creation of this album, with the hope that this music would resonate with our fans as deeply as it does with us. We couldn’t be more excited.”
My Chemical Romance is still rolling on the success of its sophomore release, “The Black Parade,” which came out in September.
