Voices Northwest, an a cappella women’s chorus that sings in barbershop harmony, is going to be busy this year.
The group will perform May 29 at the Northwest Folklife Festival in Seattle and Aug. 28 at the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe. The singers will also serenade aboard the Argosy Christmas cruise ships in December.
If you love to sing and entertain, Voices Northwest wants to sign you up.
Voices Northwest is holding an open house for new members at 7 tonight at its rehearsal space at Trinity Episcopal Church, 2301 Hoyt Ave., Everett.
Women who join learn about posture, resonance of the soft palate, and the artistry and style of barbershop. The group’s repertoire reaches past the classic barbershop numbers of “Route 66” and “Tuxedo Junction” and includes “Believe” and the song “Up on the Roof.”
There are also competitions.
The Everett-based Voices Northwest won ribbons this year for placing third and fifth overall in a regional competition in Anchorage.
Chartered in 2008, Voices Northwest is part of the Sweet Adelines International organization.
Voices Northwest has 41 members ranging in age from 16 to 75. It’s directed by Sue Beck, a certified showmanship judge with 38 years of chorus experience. For more information, go to www.voicesnorthwest.org.
