When all the rest of the county is heading north to the tulips Saturday, hop on a ferry to Whidbey for a little “Meerkerk Magic.”
The rhododendron garden in Greenbank is entering its peak blooming season mid-April to mid-May, so it’s prime time for the garden’s tradition of celebrating spring’s arrival by teaching children how to make their own garden fairy from the natural wonders found in the Meerkerk’s 10-acres of daffodils, cherry trees, magnolias and early rhododendrons.
Annie Horton leads the troupe of forest fairies offering children and their accompanying adults a great opportunity to enjoy the beautiful grounds.
Meerkerk Magic time is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Meerkerk Rhododendron Gardens, 3531 Meerkerk Lane, 2 miles south of Greenbank. Take Highway 525 north from Clinton to Resort Road. Turn right at Resort Road and follow it a half-mile to Meerkerk Lane.
Admission for this special event is $5 for adults and $3 for children. The gardens are open 9 a.m. to dusk daily through Sept. 15. Call 360-678-1912, 360-222-0121 or check www.meerkerkgardens.org, for more information.
