Real-martini drinkers might roll their eyes at the thought of some of our New Year’s drink recipes – like the chocolate eggnog “martini.”
But we’re talking about parties and we’re talking about fun. A drink, hot or cold, that includes chocolate can’t be all bad.
These designer drinks seem to have popped up on the scene in the past few years, but it’s only the latest wave in a series – does anyone remember the “orange tootsie roll” from the 1970s?
Two of those would make you sass your mama, as TV’s Southern cook Paula Dean would say.
These days we’re calling them martinis and serving them in martini glasses. It’s a good way to try out that shaker you found under the tree this year.
A word of caution: Sassing your mama is not the only thing to avoid with these dessertlike drinks.
Be careful. They sneak up on you and taste so innocent that you may be overcome before you realize it.
They’re also rather rich, especially the ones containing cream.
Know your limit. Designate a driver who will stick with unspirited hot chocolate, mulled cider or diet cola. Someone’s got to be responsible when people are quaffing chocolate eggnog martinis to see in the new year.
We’ve included a couple of hot punches for a gang of revelers and mock champagne so the kiddies can make a toast too.
