Snohomish County now has its very own marching band and drum corps.
The Northern Sound Drum Corps, founded last fall under the direction of Joel James, intends to compete regionally in the increasingly popular activity of competitive marching bands.
The local group is affiliated with the Northwest Youth Music Association and the World Class Cascades Drum Corps of Drum Corps International.
Northern Sound’s officials said they intend to stick to a less intensive touring schedule than a World Class corps but still provide the marching drum corps experience.
The group is scheduling rehearsals through spring to prepare for the summer competitions in Washington, Oregon and California.
The band is recruiting brass, percussion and color guard members ages 13 to 21.
Learn more at a clinic Saturday at Marysville High School, which will include an introduction, class on techniques and a pizza lunch. Cost is $10 per student.
The clinic is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 5611 108th St. NE, Marysville.
