Despite what some regular readers might assume, I’m actually a big REM fan — my wife and I danced to the group’s somewhat obscure song “Be Mine” at our wedding.
So it’s without regret, guilt or shame that I recommend this track, a Slade cover of “Merry Xmas Everybody.” Apparently the song was distributed to REM fan club members, and posted to download by some wise and giving soul at Surviving the Golden Age blog.
Good stuff, good stuff.
For those interested, REM’s front man Michael Stipe has been talking a big game about their next album, which may come out on April 1. And you know what? I’m just fickle enough to say, based on this Christmas cover, maybe that new record won’t be ear-stabbingly bad after all.
