History is full of episodes, anecdotes and factoids that our textbooks never tell us.
In fact, high school history would be a lot more interesting if teachers would latch on to the idea that history is more than the names of treaties and memorizing dates.
The Military Channel is proving that with its new show, “America: Facts vs. Fiction,” airing on Wednesdays. Former naval officer (and actor) Jamie Kaler hosts.
Kaler, who hails from family of service men, served five years in the Navy. But he gave up his commission to become an actor.
“My brother is a retired admiral, and my father was a Navy pilot in WWII, flew PBY’s in the war,”Kaler said.
But he said it didn’t to his father.
” It was like, ‘Navy pays pretty good, you had a pretty good thing going back there in the Navy.’
“I don’t know what got into me,” Kaler said.
Comic campus: Fox will preview two new animated cartoons on Sundaywhen it launches “Animation Domination High Def.” The 15-minute comedies are “Axe Cop” and “High School USA!”
“Axe Cop” originated as an online project between two brothers, one 30, the other 5, which was published as a graphic novel.
The story is about a super hero and his sidekick, Flute Cop, who aim to set the world right with their bravery and tricks.
“High School USA!” is full of Pollyanna pupils, who put a positive spin on everything. Vincent Kartheiser (“Mad Men”) and Mandy Moore (“Tangled”) are two of the millennials on campus.
Write stuff: The Sundance Channel is instituting a new show, “The Writers’ Room,” in which audiences will eavesdrop on the creators of such dynamic shows as “American Horror Story,” “Parks and Recreation,” “Dexter” and “New Girl.”
The show premieres July 29 with Vince Gilligan, creator of “Breaking Bad,” and his Emmy-winning star, Bryan Cranston.
