Nathan Heller — the copy editor at Slate who Friday declared war on pie, yes pie — must be trying to become famous.
I can only assume that he must be shooting for viral popularity with his post: “Pie: It’s gloppy, it’s soggy, it’s un-American.”
He says: “America, let’s be honest on this point: It is not so great to have pie.”
He can’t be serious.
As one commenter put it: “How can you hate pie? It’s like kicking puppies.”
Indeed, it baffles.
I can understand Heller’s beef with the cloudy history and the signature messiness of pie, it’s unflagging ability to escape its neat triangle boundaries.
But this is just madness.
It’s like being mad at ice cream for melting.
“Pie is an interloper trading on a false history and a tangle of confusion about its cultural role. Its past is unremarkable and un-American,” Heller explains, later calling for a “revolution” against pie.
I predict it will be small one.
Now, let’s get to the important stuff: Where in Snohomish County can you find the best pie? Your grocer’s freezer section? Your house? The Sisters Restaurant in Everett?
