Billboard has collected its top Billboard albums of 2007 and asked some artists to weigh in on their favorite albums.
From the Pacific Northwest, the Shins’ “Wincing the Night Away” came in at No. 122 and Modest Mouse’s “We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank” was right behind, at No. 126, on the year’s top sellers.
Now, granted, the Billboard list is a bit misleading, since it looks at sales from Dec. 2, 2006 until Nov. 24, 2007. So while Billboard has Daughtry at No. 1, Josh Groban’s “Noel” is now the reported top seller of the year based on a, you know, actual calendar.
Billboard aside, Modest Mouse front man Isaac Brock shared his list of favorite albums. In no particular order, he recommended:
Bonde do Rolê, “With Lasers” (Domino)
Black Francis, “Bluefinger” (Cooking Vinyl)
Les Savy Fav, “Let’s Stay Friends” (French Kiss)
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, “Some Loud Thunder” (Self-released)
Great Lake Swimmers, “Ongiara” (Nettwerk)
Justice, “Cross” (Ed Banger/Vice)
Iron &Wine, “The Shepherd’s Dog” (Sub Pop)
The Shins, “Wincing the Night Away” (Sub Pop)
Radiohead, “In Rainbows” (Self-released)
Band Of Horses, “Cease To Begin” (Sub Pop)
Incidentally, I plan on listing some of my favorites from 2007 in my music column for the Dec. 31 paper.
I’m not saying anything. I’m just saying.
