A Monroe couple and their award-winning flat-coated retriever named Koby are heading to Madison Square Garden again to compete in the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
Koby, owned by Ken and Cathy Johnson, won the Best of Breed in December at the Long Beach, Calif., AKC/Eukanuba National Championship. That show will air at 2 p.m. Sunday on ABC, KOMO-TV. Next up for Koby and the Johnsons is the trip to New York to attend the Feb. 15 Westminster show at Madison Square Garden.
Koby is getting to be an old pro on the canine circuit. This is Koby’s third straight trip to the Westminster show, his third consecutive year at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship and his third consecutive Best of Breed win.
For the 2010 season, Koby finished as the No. 1 all-breed flat-coat, the No. 1 grand champion flat-coated retriever and the No. 1 flat-coated retriever in the nation, a first for Koby’s handler, Tony Carter, who has been showing dogs for 20 years, according to press material.
The AKC/Eukanuba National Championship is an invitation-only show and is the largest prize-money dog show in the world, with cash and prizes totaling more than $225,000. For more information about the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship, go to www.akc.org/aenc.
