Screening of the 1920 silent film “The Golem” with a live performance of Israeli composer Betty Olivero’s score will be featured at Music of Remembrance’s fall concert to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Kristallnacht, the anti-Jewish pogroms of Nov. 9 and 10, 1938 in Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia.
The concert and screening is at 4 p.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. Monday at Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall at Benaroya Hall, 200 University St., Seattle.
Tickets are $36, at 206-365-7770 or www.musicofremembrance.org.
Musicians will be led by guest conductor and silent film specialist Guenter Buchwald.
In her introductory remarks, MOR’s Mina Miller will discuss how “The Golem” — based on an early Jewish legend — reveals perceptions of Jews and Jewish identity in early 20th-century Germany.
Also to be performed are Simon Sargon’s haunting “Before the Ark” and young Israeli composer Lior Navok’s poignant “Found in a Train Station.”
