Mozart magnificently played in Everett

Who doesn’t like Mozart?

His works are well-known even by non-classical types. His pieces are passionate and romantic, soaring and lively. And he’s someone who, though dead for 222 years, still consistently makes it into pop culture.

Hence the title for Everett Philharmonic’s Sunday concert, “That Magnificent Mozart!”

Passion, romance and elegance are bound up in the music and theme of this concert, as the Everett Philharmonic Orchestra shares the virtuosity of this genius.

The program features Violin Concerto No 3, showcasing guest violinist Carrie Rehkopf, violin professor at Central Washington University and first violinist of the Kairos Quartet, a group she has been touring North America with for more than 15 years, according to her biography.

Philharmonic music director and conductor Dr. Paul-Elliott Cobbs said this piece “will infuse the afternoon with excitement.”

“The genius of Mozart is unsurpassed. He is undoubtedly one of the greatest composers who ever lived,” Cobbs said in a prepared statement.

Mozart’s “Gran Partita,” Serenade No 10, is on the program, providing the overture for the afternoon festivities.

This work for wind ensemble is one of those pop culture darlings, making appearances in the movie “Amadeus,” the comedy television series, “How I Met Your Mother,” and the television drama, “The West Wing.”

Mozart’s Symphony No 41, also known as the “Jupiter Symphony,” provides the concert’s inspiring finish. Cobbs said the work’s power and grace, along with its skillful instrumentation and contrasting emotions, “embodies all of the hallmarks of a masterpiece.”

The Everett Philharmonic Orchestra presents “That Magnificent Mozart!” at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, 2936 Rockefeller Ave., Everett. Doors open at 2:15 p.m.

Tickets are $25 each. Seniors and students are $20. Tickets are available online at www.everettphil.org or call 206-270-9729.
