You can start getting your “Nutcracker” fix this weekend.
The Mukilteo Community Orchestra will opens its 2011-2012 season Sunday with “A Classical Holiday Concert.”
The concert features Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker Suite.” Dancers from the Allegro Dance Studio will perform selections from “The Nutcracker” ballet with the orchestra.
The orchestra also will play selected pieces from the opera “Hansel and Gretel” by Engelbert Humperdinck, and “Sinfonia No 35” by Mozart, according to a press release.
“I am delighted to bring this exciting holiday program to the community,” said Trevor Lutzenhiser, the orchestra’s artistic director and conductor who is principal second violin for the Seattle Philharmonic.
“Orchestra members look forward to performing this wonderful music. ‘The Nutcracker Suite’ and ‘Hansel and Gretel’ opera are traditional holiday pieces that we’re pleased to include in our first holiday concert,” Lutzenhiser said.
The orchestra will be joined by the Sky Valley Wind Quintet and local historian Christopher Summitt, who will read selected works by Charles Dickens.
“A Classical Holiday Concert” kicks off at with pre-concert performances at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave., Mukilteo. The orchestra will play at 2 p.m.

Veterans Day Memorial Concert: If you want a pleasant way to pay respect to American veterans today, you can listen to some patriotic tunes presented by a suite of local singing groups.
Patriotic songs and anthems to honor those who have served our country or are currently serving in the military are on tap.
The groups presenting the Veterans Day Memorial Concert are the Chancel Choir from Our Saviors Lutheran Church, the Trinity Episcopal Chapel Choir, the Trinity Lutheran College Concert Choir, the Everett Chorale Ensemble, the First Presbyterian Church Choir and the Handbell Choir and the Cascade Brass Quintet.
The program, sponsored by First Presbyterian Church of Everett, will include vocal soloist Peggy Kurtz of Central Lutheran Church, Navy Chaplain David Duprey from the aircraft carrier the USS Abraham Lincoln, organists Gary Norris, Kim Croft and David Spring, a massed choir of more than 100 voices lead by Trinity College professor Michael Miller and narration by Everett Chorale Director Lee Mathews, according to a press release.
The Veterans Day Memorial Concert begins at 7:30 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church, 2936 Rockefeller Ave, Everett.
Admission is free.
