Lang Lang returns
International piano superstar Lang Lang will join Gerard Schwarz and Seattle Symphony at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday for a program celebrating the works of Polish composers Frédéric Chopin, Grayna Bacewicz and Andrzej Panufnik.
The program will begin with Panufnik’s “Hommage à Chopin,” followed by Bacewicz’s “Concerto for String Orchestra.” Lang Lang then will perform Chopin’s “Andante Spianato et Grande polonaise brillante” and join the orchestra for Chopin’s “Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor.”
Lang Lang is the recipient of several awards, including first prizes at the Fourth International Young Pianists Competition in Germany (1993) and at the Tchaikovsky International Young Musicians’ Competition in Japan (1995); first-ever Gold Medallion as a Steinway artist; first recipient of the Leonard Bernstein Award at the Schleswig-Holstein Festival (2002). Lang Lang was recently appointed by the United Nations’ Children’s Fund (UNICEF) as its youngest international Goodwill Ambassador. He most recently appeared at Benaroya Hall for a sold-out recital last March.
