Pianist Gabriela Montero gave her first public performance when she was 5, so it’s not a stretch to call her a practiced performer. Some have even called her superb.
So prepare to be dazzled when Montero plays during her concert at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Meany Hall on the University of Washington campus, 4001 University Way, Seattle. Tickets are $34, $31 subscribers, $20 students, at 206-543-4880 or www.uwworldseries.org.
Classically trained, Montero has played with orchestras around the world, from South America and the United States to Europe, Japan and the Far East. But what sets her apart is her ability to improvise effortlessly on any musical theme, contemporary or classical.
For her University of Washington World Series debut, Montero will play an all-improvised program based on her own inspirations, along with suggestions from the audience.
