Jazz It Up!
The Shoreline-Lake Forest Parks Arts Council annual arts scholarship fundraiser called Jazz It Up! will get a little spiced up as well this year when Grammy-nominated trombonist, producer and arranger Dennis Wilson brings something extra to the show.
Wilson will join the Shoreline School District’s Friends and Faculty All-Star Big Band in this special benefit concert but he’s also invited local jazz vocal diva Greta Matassa to join him in a special tribute to Ray Charles. This tribute will feature the newly formed Jazz It Up! Choir with singers from Shorecrest and Shoreline high schools.
Wilson began his career as a trombonist, arranger and musical director for Lionel Hampton. His experience includes work with Sarah Vaughn, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Clark Terry and Joe Williams. Matassa has been nominated best jazz vocalist by Earshot Jazz four times.
Jazz It Up! starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Shorecrest Performing Arts Center, 15343 25th Ave. NE, Shoreline. Tickets are $18 and $15 and can be purchased at www.ShorelineArts.net, by calling 206-417-4645 or at the arts council office at 18560 First Ave. NE, Shoreline.
