To celebrate the birthday of Johann Sebastian Bach this month, Trinity Lutheran Church’s “Artists at the Organ” recital series features internationally acclaimed organist James David Christie in an all-Bach program at 7 p.m. Sunday.
In 2000, Christie performed in Seattle to high critical acclaim during the dedication concerts for the Watjen Organ in Benaroya Hall. Previously, he was the first American ever to win first prize in the prestigious Bruges International Organ Competition.
Christie has served as organist for the Boston Symphony since 1978. He also holds positions as the Distinguished Artist in Residence at the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Mass., and professor of organ at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music in Oberlin, Ohio.
His program will include the Fantasia and Fugue in G minor, the mature Partita on Sei gegrüsset, Jesu gütig and will conclude with the Toccata and Fugue in D minor.
Christie also will present a master class from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
Trinity Lutheran Church, 6215 196th St. SW, Lynnwood, is noted for its 2-manual, 30-stop organ built by Martin Pasi, housed in a black walnut, Italianate style case in a fine acoustical environment.
Suggested donation for the performance is $10, seniors and students pay as able. For more information, see www.trinitylutheranchurch.com.
