1. Belay the way.
Calling all belayers — Summit Everett needs your help.
The climbing gym on Rucker Avenue in Everett is hosting a climbing competition called Summit Everett Spring Redpoint on March 23 and is looking for 50 volunteers to belay.
Belayers, who help control the ascent and descent of climbers, are needed for three 3-hour sessions. They must be belay-certified at Summit Everett and available for at least one session.
The added bonus? Volunteers get two day passes to the gym and an event t-shirt.
Call 425-349-0131 or email info@summiteverett.com.
2. Magic kids
Have a hopeful magician in the house who dreams of pulling off grand illusions?
The Afterschool Magic Camp at the Edmonds Center for the Arts, running Feb. 25 to March 1, could be a good place to start.
The camp, led by illusionist Kevin Spencer, is for students ages 8-15 of all abilities, including children on the autism spectrum.
Spencer will teach kids magic tricks, and the entire class will participate in a big illusion together.
Tuition for the five-day camp is $80 per student; 100 percent need-based scholarships are also available.
Call 425-275-9595 to register or 425-275-9483 to apply for a scholarship. More at www.ec4arts.org.
3. Island beauty
If you’re making a trip to Whidbey and Camano islands over the next few months, snap some photos.
Yours could be featured in the 2020 Whidbey Camano Land Trust Calendar.
The land trust’s annual photo contest, in its sixth year, showcases island landscapes. Last year, 900 calendars were printed and sold at locations through Island County.
Twelve main photos will be selected, one for each month, and an additional 12 smaller photos also will appear in the calendar.
More about the contest at www.wclt.org. Email submissions to landtrustphotocontest@gmail.com.
