Newcomers add flavor to Taste of Edmonds

The Taste of Edmonds, which is the largest food event in Snohomish County, has more newcomers than you can shake a corndog stick at.

St. George Coptic Orthodox Church will expand the Greek selections with their dolmas. Dolmas are grape leaves stuffed with rice and ground meat, and they’re delicious. Long-time Taste of Edmonds participant, Kafe Neo, will continue their tradition of delicious Greek gyros – grilled beef, lamb, chicken or veggie wrapped in pita bread. Greek food isn’t complete without baklava and both booths will be serving up slices of this Greek delicacy made with filo dough that’s laced with honey and chopped nuts.

First-timer Khon Kaen Cafe will be making pud Thai, spring rolls, red chicken curry, fried rice and chicken satay. They’ll be joined by Lilian’s The Orient and Thai Woodinville. Lilian’s the Orient will prepare teriyaki chicken, seared salmon and lemongrass beef skewers. In 1999 and 2002, their teriyaki chicken won the Best Side Dish award. Thai Woodinville will also serve that Thai favorite pud Thai plus fried rice, garlic chicken and spicy chicken.

If you haven’t tried bubble tea, end your Asian meal with a tall cold one from newcomer Cafe KoKomo. Bubble tea’s a frothy milk-tea-fruit juice combination. Shaking distributes the flavorings evenly, introducing bubbles. Tapioca balls can be added, which bubbles at the bottom and top of the glass. The tapioca pearls are marble-sized and have a consistency between stiff Jell-O and soft gummi bears. It takes a large-diameter straw to drink the bubble tea and pop the tapioca into your mouth.

Appetizer’s Inc. joins the Pacific Northwest category for the first time this year. They’ll be serving cabernet sauvignon king crab, stuffed mushrooms, candied smoked chicken skewers, candied smoked king salmon and praline salad.

They’re joined by Scotty’s Northwest Cuisine, which has won awards five times for their famous blackened salmon Caesar salad. Scotty’s will also serve a shrimp Caesar salad and ice cream bars.

Cinnamon’s Grill, which was a newcomer last year, will return this year and will serve its trademark Indian fare with a Pacific Northwest twist. Try their fusion dish that combines salmon in masala. After your Indian fare, enjoy some Indian iced tea and browse through the tea products from Teaosophy, which is also new to the Taste of Edmonds.

Four others new to the Taste of Edmonds are New Orleans Cookery, which will serve up crab jambalaya and seafood gumbo, and Loudons Bar-B-Que, which will offer Texas-style beef, pork ribs, chicken and link sausage. G&G Dippin Dots features those super-frozen ice cream balls along with frozen yogurt and sherbet. At Fajita Express there will be chicken or steak fajita sandwiches, taco salad, burritos and chicken corndogs.
