Going to a presser today with Lorenzo Romar and the UW men’s basketball team. Always look forward to seeing Romar. He’s the same with us as you see him on TV. He’s very respectful and easy to work with. That kind of attitude spreads to his assistants and players. They’re all great to work with and I look forward to the season.
I hope fans don’t expect the moon out of this team. They may indeed be very good, but ever since the bunch with Brandon Roy, Will Conroy, Bobby Jones, Nate Robinson, Tre Simmons and the rest copped the No. 1 NCAA seed, unrealistic expectations have dogged the Huskies and it isn’t fair. This stuff doesn’t happen every year. I hope you’re seeing now how special that group was.
This group should be fun to watch. I like the new guys a lot. And Jon Brockman, of course, is a joy to watch in how hard the guy plays. Absolutely great kid, too.
I’ll write about some aspect for Sunday’s paper.
In other matters, I’d planned to write a Seahawks column for today, but I found I was gassed and needed a day away from writing. It happens sometimes. A lot has been going on, some you don’t know about, and the farthest thing from my mind was to drive to Seahawks camp, sit down and write. I’m back at it now, feeling better. It’s a wonder what a day away and a long walk can do.
