50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Walt Antak, attendant at the Silver Lake Richfield service station, looked at what was left of a chair he was sitting in seconds before a 1956 Chevrolet station wagon careened into the building. Antak leaped to safety. Damage to the car was estimated at $600.
Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Olson invited residents to attend the grand opening of Everett’s newest Coin-O-Matic self-service laundry at 19th and Wetmore. There were free balloons, car washes and Coca-Cola. Well-wishers were Judd &Black, Kirsh Sheet Metal Works, Appliance Service and Brown the Plumber.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Ray Stephanson, operations manager for General Telephone Co. of the Northwest Inc., said phone service would be restored soon at the Everett Mall. A cable in the area had been severed by a boring device.
Under the sponsorship of District 1 of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2588 of Stanwood, a representative from the state Job Service office in Mount Vernon would be on hand in Stanwood helping to match vets with jobs. Henry Campbell of Stanwood Realty was donating space and a telephone bank.
