Other youth producing ‘Grease,’ ‘Bugsy Malone’

“Grease” is a blast from the past, a gas of a ’50s musical, coming to audiences from the theater camp of the Driftwood Players.

This is the second year Driftwood is able to present a musical theater camp performance as a mainstage show. The show runs this weekend at the Wade James Theatre in Edmonds.

This fully staged production features good girl Sandy Dumbrowski and bad boy Danny Zucko who fall in love during summer break and return to school with unresolved feelings. Come fall, can their romance survive?

Sit back and watch while you dance in your seat to songs like “We Go Together,” “Born to Hand Jive,” and “Greased Lightning.”

“Bugsy Malone”: Sky Performing Arts’ Summer Children’s Theater Workshop presents this popular madcap musical that takes audiences on a family-friendly romp through 1920s Chicago.

The mobster musical, written by Alan Parker with music and lyrics by Paul Williams, opens tonight with weekend shows through Aug. 12 at the Sky Valley Education Center, 17072 Tye St., Monroe.

The show features the talents of 20 actors aged 9 to 16, from throughout Snohomish County who have worked hard honing their young acting skills to bring “Bugsy Malone” to life.

The musical is backed by a live stage band led by Dave Pallo and choreographed by Loretta Nichols.
