n 7:30 a.m. Feb. 24; Cooper River-Salmon LaSac (snowshoe and cross-country); 4 to 8 miles; difficulty: easy/medium; elevation gain 400 feet.

n Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge; Meet at 7 a.m. Feb. 8 at the Lynnwood Walmart lot at 1400 164th St SW (I-5 Exit 183). Park at the edge of the lot to the west. Long road trip, about 80 miles each way. At the refuge, it’s a walk of several miles to experience the marshes, tide flats, grasslands and riparian woodlands. Some 200 species have been seen here. Trip Leader: Virginia Clark 360-435-3750.

n Port Gamble to Port Townsend; Meet at 7 a.m. Feb. 15 at the Edmonds Marsh. (South of W. Dayton Street, turn left just before the railroad tracks). Ferry to Kingston, go through Port Gamble and across the floating bridge. On the way, visit Marrowstone Island and Indian Island to see waterfowl, seabirds and maybe orcas. Trip Leader: Virginia Clark 360-435-3750.

n Birch Bay Semiahmoo, Drayton Harbor; Meet at 7 a.m. Feb. 22, at Quilceda Village Walmart west of Marysville (I-5-Exit 200). Expect harlequin and long tail ducks, brant and other species. Trip Leader: Wilma Bayes 360-629-2028, and she will serve hot soup and dessert at her waterfront cabin.
