• Learn to row . Introductory classes 6 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturdays April 4 to 16, at Everett Rowing Association, Langus Park Shellhouse, $60. Classes cover sweep rowing, boat handling and oarsmanship. Appropriate for beginners or rowers who haven’t b
een on the water for two years or more. Youths 14-17 are welcome with a participating adult.
• Kids’ trout clinic 6 to 8 p.m. April 13, $10 (parent and child ages 5 to 17). Learn about the gear and techniques to fish for trout. Taught by the Everett Steelhead and Salmon Club, and includes casting practice, at Silver Hall, Thornton A. Sullivan Park, 11400 W. Silver Lake Road.
• Night hike and low tide walk at Howarth Park 8 to 9:30 p.m. April 15, $7 (ages 6 and up). Hike the trails of Howarth Park, through the trees and along the stream bank, followed by an exploration of Howarth Beach at low tide. The park is at 1127 Olympic Blvd., Everett.
• Skyline Lake , 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 17, $40 (ages 12 to 17 with participating adult, $32). Hike up to a lake at Stevens Pass with panoramic views of the central Cascades crest. Only for experienced snowshoers or beginners who are in good condition. Round trip: 3 miles, with a 1,200-foot gain. Departs from Parks and Recreation office.

• Rod-building class; 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. May 3, 4, 10 and 11. The four-evening class includes instruction, use of the workshop and tools, and epoxy for the rod. $35.

• Mill Creek and vicinity; meet 8 a.m. April 5, Lynnwood Walmart lot at 1400 164th St. SW (I-5 Exit 183). Park at the edge of the lot to the west. Trip includes Silver Lake, Martha Lake, Rhody Ridge Arboretum, North Creek Park. Trip Leaders: Virginia Clark, 360-435-3750, John dePlace, 425-357-0944.
• Deception Pass area; 7:30 a.m. April 12, Quilceda Village Walmart. Explore all the lakes, beaches and trails near the pass. Trip Leader: Virginia Clark, 360-435-3750.
• Montlake Fill (Union Bay Natural Area); 8 a.m. April 19, Lynnwood Walmart lot. One of the most productive birding areas in this vicinity. If time allows we may visit Foster Island, Magnuson Park and other areas of North Lake Washington. Trip Leaders: Art Wait, 360-563-0181, Virginia Clark, 360-435-3750.
• Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge; 7:30 a.m. April 26, Lynnwood Walmart lot. Long road trip about 80 miles each way. At the refuge we will need to walk several miles to fully experience the marshes, tide flats, grasslands and riparian woodlands. Two hundred species have been seen here.
