Cougar talk: A “Cougars” presentation is at 7 p.m. April 18 at the Northwest Stream Center in McCollum Park, 600-128th St. SE, Everett. Brian Kertson, cougar scientist for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, will talk about how to identify cougar signs in the woods, their ecology, behavior and how to co-exist with them. Narbeck trail maintenance: Help clear the Karen Armstrong Memorial, an amphitheater and back trails at Narbeck Wetland Sanctuary, from 10 a.m. to noon April 19, 7007 Seaway Blvd., Everett. Free park-ing: The next day to visit Washington State Parks without an entrance fee is on April 20, Spring Day. Other free days are April 22 (Earth Day), June 1 (National Trails Day), June 8 (National Get Outdoors Day), June 9 (Fishing Day), Aug. 25 (National Park Service’s birthday), Nov. 11 (Veterans Day) and Nov. 29 (Autumn free day). All about beavers: The presentation is at 7 p.m. April 25 at the Northwest Stream Center and includes a screening of the 31-minute IMAX movie “Beavers,” showing an industrious beaver family creating an aquatic habitat that they share with all kinds of wildlife. The Northwest Stream Center is in Snohomish County’s McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE Everett. Reservations are required by calling 425-316-8592. Cost is $5 for member, $7 for non-members. This event is appropriate for first graders to adults.

Sea kayaking: Paddle from Cornet Bay to Skagit and Hope islands April 27 with the Everett Sea Kayaking Committee. The 12-mile journey, beginning at the Corney Bay boat launch at W. Cornet Bay Road, Oak Harbor, will have a moderate pace. A Basic Sea Kayaking Course badge is required. Space is limited. Meeting time yet to be determined. More at www.themountaineers.org.

Sno-Park permits: Attention snow enthusiasts: Washington State Parks Winter Recreation Program’s Sno-Park permits are available for purchase online and at various vendors statewide through April 30. The permits allow visitors to park in cleared, designated parking lots with access to areas around the state for skiing, snowmobiling, dog sledding, snowshoeing, tubing and other winter fun. Craig Romano: The guidebook author, outdoors writer and trails expert is speaking at the Everett Mountaineers’ open house at 7 p.m. May 1 at Snohomish PUD headquarters, 2320 California St., Everett. Romano has authored more than 20 books, including his Urban Trails series. He’ll talk about his latest book, “Urban Trails: Everett,” which highlights urban trails in Snohomish and Island counties.
