Did you hear what happened when Jodie Foster, Demi Moore, Tom Cruise and Jon Bon Jovi went to IHOP?

They got the senior discount.

Forget what they say: 50 isn’t the new 30. It’s the new 65 when it comes to some senior discounts.

Many places no longer make you wait until you’re of retirement age to get a break on eating and shopping. There are some starting at 50. For most, however, you have to be at least 55.

So, if you were old enough to have been behind the wheel for a few years when 55 was enacted as the national speed limit, then you’re old enough for most of these discounts.

(The 1974 Emergency Highway Energy Conservation Act that prohibited speed limits higher than 55 miles per hour was drafted in response to oil price spikes and supply disruptions during the 1973 oil crisis. Gas was about 55 cents a gallon.)

Offers vary by location. Not all participate. Ask before ordering.
