Physicist Stephen Hawking was hospitalized overnight for a chest infection but his family “is looking forward” to a full recovery, England’s Cambridge University said Tuesday.
Hawking was comfortable, the statement said, and being kept in observation” at Addenbrooke’s hospital after being admitted Monday.
Hawking, 67, gained renown for his work on black holes and has remained active despite being diagnosed at age 21 with ALS, (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), an incurable degenerative disorder also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Hawking has been almost entirely paralyzed for years and communicates through an electronic voice synthesizer activated by his fingers.
A Chicago federal judge dashed indicted former Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s reality TV dream Tuesday, refusing to give the ousted Democrat permission to travel to Costa Rica to tape a show in the jungle.
The judge refused to modify terms of Blagojevich’s bail to allow him to leave the U.S., saying he needs to remain in the country to help his attorneys formulate a strategy for his defense against allegations that he tried to auction off President Barack Obama’s former U.S. Senate seat, among other charges.
Blagojevich had sought permission to appear on NBC’s “I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!” — a program similar to “Survivor.” Contestants will be plopped down in the Costa Rican jungle to perform sweaty physical tasks and scheme to avoid elimination.
