Peru Negro, a group specializing in music, dance and storytelling that celebrates Peru’s African heritage, will bring its lively performance to Edmonds Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Sounds generated from regular instruments, as well as wooden crates, metal tithing boxes and other items, will highlight the talents of the group’s more than 30 musicians. Both the music and the dance routines tell the stories of Peru’s African culture, traditions and history.
The performance will mark the beginning of a weeklong celebration in Edmonds honoring the 100th anniversary of the Peruvian consulate’s existence in the city. Other events will include the appearance of a Peruvian naval ship at Seattle’s Pier 66 and a street celebration at the Peruvian consulate’s office in Lake Forest Park.
Families are welcome, and tickets for the show cost $30, $28 for ages 62 and older and $15 for ages 17 and under. They can be purchased from Edmonds Center for the Arts’ box office at 425-275-9595 or at www.ec4arts.org. The center is at 410 Fourth Ave. N., Edmonds.
