The first flight: Like the bird reborn from the ashes, The Phoenix Theatre has risen from the site of the defunct Edge of the World Theatre and launched its first production, a triple serving of comedies.
The theme for the grand opening is “Madness and Mayhem at the Phoenix,” as the theater welcomes patrons to its newly renovated digs, once home to the Edge, which closed after 17 years.
The first of these funny shorties is the West Coast premiere of “From Paris to Main Street” by Louise Bryant, about the plight of a free spirit from France married to a small-town boy whom she met during the Great War.
The second show is Susan Glaspell’s “Suppressed Desires,” a satire on trendy psychoanalysis and the dangers that occur when lay people try to practice.
The third one-act is “Fourteen” by Alice Gerstenberg, a farce about a socialite who invites too many guests for a dinner that includes an inebriated butler and a spinster daughter.
Show times are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through Feb. 1 at the Phoenix Theatre in the Firdale Village Shopping Center, 9673 Firdale Ave., Edmonds. Admission is $18 and $16 for seniors online at www.brownpapertickets.com or www.thephenxtheatre.com or by calling 206-533-2000.
