Every year, the American Theatre Organ Society has a pipe organ performance competition for upcoming performers.
Last year’s winner was Nathan Avakian, 18, of Portland, Ore., who will show audiences at the Historic Everett Theatre what makes him such a winner on the pipes.
Avakian first discovered the theater organ at age 4 at the Portland Organ Grinder Restaurant. At age 11, he began formal organ studies and today plays, arranges and composes music.
In addition to his organ music, Avakian also acts, has trained with Westside Dance Academy since he was 5 and dances tap, jazz and ballet.
For the Wednesday concert, Avakian will perform several pipe organ pieces, along with one of his original compositions accompanied by a short silent movie.
Avakian will perform at 2 p.m. Wednesday on the Kimball organ at Historic Everett Theatre, 2911 Colby Ave., Everett. Suggested donation is $5 at the door or call 425-258-6766 or go to www.etix.com.
