Combining “pizza” and “garden” can lead to tasty results — and on Saturday, Molbak’s Nursery at 13625 NE 175th St. in Woodinville will prove it.
The nursery’s family-friendly Plant a Pizza Kitchen Garden event will have participants putting rosemary, tomato and basil together in a pot for use at home after a couple weeks of growing time.
Sessions, which start at 9:30 and 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., are open to those 6 and older with parental supervision. The cost is $10 per child and reservations are required by calling 425-483-5000 or going to www.molbaks.com.
“We want the kids to have fun while they’re learning about the different plants,” event manager Lauren Bullock said. “This particular class will teach them that it’s possible to grow plants indoors and then transplant them outside when the weather gets warmer.”
The staff chose the “pizza kitchen garden” title because the pots are at first left growing in sunny spots in home kitchens, and, she said, because “all of these things are found on different kinds of pizza and we wanted to perk their interest with a fun title. Not only can they use these herbs and tomatoes in their pizza recipes, but in all kinds of other recipes, as well.”
Such events will continue at Molbak’s in coming months. The next one, set for March 28 and entitled “The Buds and the Bees,” will feature a professional bee keeper talking about mason bees and the plight of the bee populations.
Another good bet for family entertainment, the Broadway presentation of Disney’s “The Lion King,” continues its run through March 15 at the Paramount Theatre.
The story of Simba, a young lion prince who leaves his home after his father’s death but returns to become king, has won many awards, including a Grammy for best musical show album. It offers music by Elton John and Tim Rice. Director Julie Taymor and designer Michael Curry worked on the show’s eye-catching masks and puppets.
Performances are at 8 p.m. Fridays, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturdays, 1 and 6:30 p.m. Sundays, and other times on specific dates. The theater is at 911 Pine St., Seattle. Tickets, $19.50 to $75 plus service fees, are at the Paramount box office, 206-467-5510 and www.theparamount.com or Ticketmaster, 206-628-0888 and www.ticketmaster.com.
