Plan your weekend: Scrub-a-Mutt, dahlias, music, skateboarding

Cut loose, “Footloose”: This weekend only, the Edmonds Driftwood Players’ summer teen ensemble will perform “Footloose,” the musical based on the classic 1984 film in which a teenager moves from the big city to a small town where dancing, rock music and general fun has been banned. Runs Friday-Sunday.

Grub on wheels: No need to go to Seattle, on Saturday the food trucks are coming to you. Chow down at the Everett Food Truck Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on Colby Avenue between Everett Avenue and 25th Street. We even have some reviews to help you decided what to try. Read more in our story.

Dazzling dahlias: The Snohomish County Dahlia Society’s show on Saturday and Sunday at Forest Park will feature thousands of the oversized flowers from all over the area. Read more in our story.

The recommended donation is $5 for a small dog or $10 for a large dog. The Everett Animal Shelter will be on hand offering free microchipping.

Fall is coming: Get your garden ready. The folks at Li’l Sprout Nursery and Garden Center in Mill Creek will teach you how to clean up your garden and how to prepare for fall planting. Aug. 22 from 11 a.m.-noon.

Bluegrass in the garden: On Saturday, three bands play at the annual bluegrass festival at Meerkerk Gardens on Whidbey Island. Show off your skills: Show everybody your moves at Board Bash, a free skateboard competition for kids and adults on Saturday in Mill Creek. Registration starts at 11 a.m., competition at noon. Helmets are required.

A legend came to town: A hundred years ago legendary entertainer Al Jolson came to Everett. On Saturday at 2 p.m. an Everett Library historian will play vintage recordings of his music, and provide history and context to understand the song-and-dance man’s music and performances.

Moonlight beach adventure: Bundle up and bring a flashlight to Marina Beach in Edmonds for a moonlight beach adventure. On Saturday from 7:30-9:30 p.m. naturalists and docents will lead a summer program full of stories, songs and sea creatures.
