WHAT: Leiophyllum buxifolium, commonly known as sand myrtle, is a well-known native plant to New Jersey and along the Eastern seaboard. It is a compact shrub with rose-pink buds that produce white flowers tipped with pink.
It is a small evergreen plant that is perfect near the front of the border where it is important to have winter interest as well as in spring and summer.
SUN OR SHADE: L. buxifolium prefers sun to part shade.
SIZE: It is a petite shrub measuring1 1/2 foot to 3 feet at maturity, but can grow to 5 feet wide.
