A flock of snow geese soars over a field carpeted in red and purple tulips, the blooms bursting.
Local wildlife artist Bart Rulon captured the essence of the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival: wildlife and tulips balanced together on a breathtaking spring evening.
Rulon’s image also captured the love of festival organizers who named him this year’s poster artist.
Rulon lives and works on the Whidbey Island shore where he is inspired by the landscape and the abundant wildlife.
Rulon spent years developing his skills, starting with his bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky majoring in scientific illustration. After graduation, he moved to Washington to start his career as a full-time wildlife artist and photographer. He also teaches natural science illustration at the University of Washington.
Rulon will sign copies of his 2010 Skagit Valley Tulip Festival poster from 1 to 3 p.m. today at Wild Birds Unlimited, 4821 Evergreen Way, Everett.
Cost of the poster is $25.
