Pumpkins and more

These days, pumpkin patches offer much, much more than pumpkins for those looking for family-friendly activities, as well as Halloween jack-o’-lanterns and filling for pies.

For instance, take Bailey Vegetables in Snohomish. Sure, the pumpkin patch covers more than 5 acres, but weekends in Oc

tober also mean fun for kids in the pumpkin barn with a hay fort, tire swings and a “needle in a haystack” game.

At Foster’s Produce & Corn Maze, there are a pumpkin patch and a “Legend of the Trolls” corn maze. Every year Foster’s comes up with a new design for its giant maze.

Foster’

s also offers a “pumpkin slingshot”: three tries for $1 and if you hit the target, you get a free ice cream cone.

Then there are harvest festivals, like the Sultan Farm Fest, which can offer a bounty of activities, from cooking to roping lessons, as well as a choice of fresh vegetables and pumpkins.

Or check out the Harvest Festival at Country Village in Bothell, which includes dance and music performances, pony rides and the Zambonie Brothers’ “Chicken Rider.”

Here’s a list of some area pumpkin patches, corn mazes and harvest festivals.
