The Island County Amateur Radio Club will ham it up as part of International Lighthouse Weekend, an event founded by a Scottish amateur radio group.
Whidbey Island ham radio operators expect to be on the air from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, setting up their gear at the Admiralty Head Lighthouse, 1280 Engle Road, Coupeville. The event is meant to promote public awareness of lighthouses.
During the event, local radio operators will try to contact as many amateur radio stations as they can using the call sign K7A. The event will also act as a demonstration of ham radio use to the public.
