Rainn Wilson is widely known for playing Dwight Schrute on the NBC sitcom “The Office.”
He’s also a native of Seattle, a stand-up comedian, an actor and a philanthropist.
He returns to his hometown to host an annual fundraiser for the Mona Foundation, a group that supports grassroots education projects around the world.
Wilson has been active in helping the Mona Foundation’s work in Haiti.
The fundraiser brings Wilson and a cast of all-star comics and musicians to the stage. Scheduled guests this year include Mindy Kaling; Andy Grammer; Chris Pratt, who grew up in Lake Stevens and is married to Anna Faris; Faris herself, who went to high school in Edmonds; Seattle’s Visqueen; Colin Meloy of The Decemberists; and Phoenix Jones, the man who runs around downtown Seattle wearing a superhero costume.
Jones’ appearance is a reference to “Super,” Wilson’s recent film about a man who dresses up as a superhero. Jones first was making headlines earlier this year, when Wilson attended the Emerald City Comicon. Wilson was interested at the time in learning more about Jones.
The benefit starts at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Paramount Theatre, 911 Pine St., Seattle.
Tickets are $31.25 to $51.25 at stgpresents.org or 877-784-4849.
