Sip and see: Meet Everett mystery writer Neil Low at a reading and wine-sipping event at WineStyles in Marysville from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The Seattle police captain will read from his second novel, “Sign of the Dragon.” Low’s books step back to the 1940s as young detective Alan Stewart tracks down murderers and spies in Seattle’s back streets.
Both “Dragon” and Low’s first novel, “Thick as Thieves,” may be purchased at WineStyles for signing. The books are $15.95 each.
The event is free, and wine and appetizers will be available at special prices.

Gold greed: Oregon journalist Greg Nokes will read from and sign “Massacred for Gold” at 7 p.m. Wednesdayat Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park.
Nokes recounts the long-hidden story of the massacre of more than 30 Chinese gold miners at Hells Canyon, Oregon, in 1887, and the ensuing cover-up. “Massacred” lists at $18.95.
Free film: The Everett Public Library’s Second Sundays Film Series continues at 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 14 with “Gigante,” the bittersweet tale of a shy security guard in Montevideo, Uruguay, in love from afar with a cleaning woman he sees on his surveillance monitor.
The guard’s secret obsession builds as he follows her after work each day.
The free film, in Spanish with English subtitles, will be shown in the main auditorium at the library, 2702 Hoyt Ave., Everett.
