Third and two: Eastern Washington writer Patricia Briggs will read from and sign her latest novel, “Bone Crossed,” at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Third Place Books. This is fourth in Briggs’ Mercy Thompson series. Offbeat Mercy is a car mechanic by day and shape-shifter in her off hours.

Moving from the preternatural to the medieval, meet Nancy Atherton, who will read from and sign the 13th in her Aunt Dimity series, “Aunt Dimity Slays the Dragon” at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Third Place. Knights, kings, dragons and damsels mix it up at a modern-day Renaissance fair.

She rules: The queen of true crime, Ann Rule, and the heir to the throne, Leslie Rule, will double team at noon Saturday at Seattle Mystery Bookshop. Ann Rule will talk about “The Stranger Beside Me,” her best-selling book about Ted Bundy. Leslie Rule will sign her third book, “Ghost in the Mirror.”

Plan ahead: The Everett Public Library will show “Aaltra” at 2 p.m. Feb. 8 at part of their Second Independent Film Series. This Belgian film, in French with English subtitles, is fraught with black humor. Two warring neighbors wind up in a scuffle where both are paralyzed, but become united as they seek revenge against the tractor company that they claim caused their injuries.
