Rosehill Revue ready

Take a trip back in time at the ninth annual Rosehill Revue at 7 p.m. Saturday at Mukilteo’s Rosehill Community Center.

In the vaudeville tradition, the annual revue blends elements of music, comedy and dance. The show is a benefit for the Gene Nastri School of the Arts in Mukilteo.

Headlining this year’s show is Rachel Beck. She’s joined by the Rosehill Rosebuds, a chorus made up of local men. Tony Tinsley, a Mukilteo city councilman, is the master of ceremonies.

Beck sang with the Mukilteo Children’s Chorus for three years and appeared in prior Rosehill Revue performances. She attended Gene Nastri School of the Arts and has since performed with Village Theatre, Northwest Savoyards, Seattle Opera and Eastside Musical Theatre. Most recently, Beck played the role of Mary Lennox in Village Theatre’s production of “The Secret Garden.”

The Mukilteo Community Orchestra performs under the baton of its new conductor, Loreen Petty. She studied violin for eight years with Gene Nastri. She performed with the Everett Youth Symphony, the Nastri String Ensemble and the Everett Symphony Orchestra. After attending Northwest Nazarene College, Petty continued performing with the Boise Philharmonic and Chamber orchestras, Bellevue and Federal Way philharmonic orchestras, Civic Light Opera and the Olympic Ballet Orchestra.

Gene Nastri School of the Arts is a community school offering visual arts, music and drama classes. The school opened in 1984 and originally offered two-week summer arts workshops. In 1993, the school opened its doors full-time as a non-profit organization.

Champions on Ice: John Hancock Champions on Ice tour is quickly becoming a tradition in Everett after a nearly sold-out show last year.

The show returns to the Everett Events Center for its 2005 tour on Wednesday.

This year’s tour features world and national figure skating champions.

Michelle Kwan, who has won five world championships and eight U.S. championships, skates alongside three-time U.S. silver medal winner and world silver medal winner Sasha Cohen.

Other skaters include Olympic silver-medal winner Irina Slutskaya, national champion Johnny Weir and Olympic bronze medalist Timothy Goebel.

Specialty acts at this year’s show include Dan Hollander, a skater on the Comedy on Ice tour and two-time U.S. bronze medalist; ice acrobats Vladimir Besedin and Oleksiy Polishchuk, and Irina Grigorian, a 1998 U.S. open professional champion.

The Rosehill Rosebuds are a staple at the Rosehill Revue.
