Not a bad haul: Here’s how to have an old refrigerator or freezer hauled away and earn yourself $30 at the same time. Simply call the Snohomish County PUD at 800-577-0510 and arrange for pick-up of your old appliance.
Give that old fridge the cold shoulder: To encourage people to recycle their old energy-gulping fridges and freezers, the PUD arranges with JACO Environmental to pick up the bulky appliances. A $30 incentive check is then sent to the PUD customer within four to six weeks.
The fine print: The appliances have to be in working condition, between 10 and 27 cubic feet in capacity and have been made before 1995. The program is open to all PUD customers.
You win, and the environment wins: You get $30 and get rid of a bulky, energy-wasting appliance. JACO recycles the appliance’s materials and safely disposes of the ozone-destroying CFCs used as refrigerant.
