Savoyards brings ‘Anything Goes’ to Everett

“Anything Goes” is set to become a triple threat of entertainment.

It’s produced by the Northwest Savoyards, a high-quality local musical theater troupe.

It’s got a proven talented cast in leading roles, including a husband-and-wife duo that is dynamite.

And it’s got a production team that is shipshape.

“Anything Goes” is a musical of Cole Porter hits that opens tonight at Historic Everett Theater.

The zany plot involves high-jinks on the high seas. The action is set on an ocean liner with failed banker Billy Crocker trying to pursue the love of his life while being mistaken for Public Enemy No. 1.

Enter Reno Sweeny, a nightclub evangelist, who tries to help her friend Billy. Meanwhile, Public Enemy No. 13 and his gal pal Bonnie are simply trying to get out of the country without landing in the brig, according to press material.

“Anything Goes” has great songs and lots of tap dancing. Get ready to be riveted.

“Tap really appeals to people,” Savoyards board member and actress Laura Abel said. “It’s the musical sound and rhythm of the taps that captivates people of all ages, youngsters and oldsters.”

To put that music and dancing together was a combined effort of the production team that includes well-known musical director David Spring and talented choreographer Krista Erickson, under the stage direction of Alan Wilkie. Together this veteran team has produced several shows for the Savoyards, including “Annie” and “The Music Man,” Abel said.

“The three of them together make a great draw and we are lucky to have them come back and put this musical together,” Abel said.

The Cole Porter selections include “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “It’s Delovely,” “Let’s Misbehave,” “Blow, Gabriel, Blow” and “All Through the Night.”

Abel said the chorus is well-rehearsed and that the meticulous Spring “really does pull great sound out of our cast.”

“To see the songs delivered by such a dynamic cast, I’m just blown away,” Abel said. “I just envision people leaving the theater with great, big smiles on their faces thinking they totally got their money’s worth.”

She said the Savoyards were also lucky to get husband and wife James and Emilyrose Frasca back, after the two just finished performing in the Savoyards most recent production “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.”

Also returning in leading roles are Savoyards veterans Sabrina Ottness, Rachel Wilkie, Mark Abel and Scott Freshman.

“Anything Goes” opens at 8 tonight at Historic Everett Theatre, 2911 Colby Ave., Everett. Shows are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday through June 17.

Tickets are $22 for adults and $19 for students, seniors and military. Group discounts available. Call 425-258-6766 or purchase online at www.EverettTheatre.org.
