Local residents take Gonzaga honors

Kyle Ryan of Mill Creek was one of 1,120 students named to the Gonzaga University president’s list for spring semester. Students must earn a 3.7 to 4.0 grade-point average to be listed.

Krista Van Dyke of Lake Stevens was among the 784 students named to the Gonzaga University dean’s list for spring semester.

Snohomish resident named to dean’s list

Anthony Harness of Snohomish was recently named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Fla.

A student must complete 12 or more graded credits in a semester with a semester grade-point average of at least 3.4 to be on the dean’s list.

Snohomish student gets honors in Texas

Martina Gordillo of Snohomish was named to the Hardin-Simmons University president’s list for the spring semester.

Gordillo is one of 219 students at Texas’ Hardin-Simmons University, of Abilene, Texas, with a 4.0 grade-point average for the spring semester.

Local students make Taylor U dean’s list

Leah Brown of Oak Harbor was recently named to the spring dean’s list at Taylor University in Upland, Ind.

Full-time students are named to the dean’s list when they have earned a grade-point average of 3.60 or higher for the term, and at least 12 hours carry credit point values.

Bothell student earns Tanner Fellowship

Lauren Bennett of Bothell is one of six students at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., who has been awarded a Tanner Fellowship.

The Tanner Fellowship includes a stipend of $2,500.

A graduate of Henry M. Jackson High School in Mill Creek, Bennett is a member of the class of 2011 at St. Lawrence.

She is a global studies major, and her fellowship award will allow her to participate in an internship at the National Museum of Dance in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Edmonds student on Seton Hall dean’s list

Edmonds resident Madison Jane Wrest recently made the spring dean’s list for the College of Arts and Sciences at Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J.

Students receive BECU scholarships

Boeing Credit Union recently awarded 40 student members a $2,500 BECU Foundation Scholarship for the 2010-11 school year.

Snohomish County residents Sarah Beach, Mike Benjamin, Sarah McDowell, Zachary Hanson, Lucas Perry and Joshua Savage were among the 40 recipients to win a scholarship.

Beach is a recent graduate of Glacier Peak High School who will attend the University of Oregon in the fall. She won a scholarship for her work with the Exceptional Kids Program.

Benjamin is an undergraduate student at Washington State University who won a scholarship for his work with Skagit County Search and Rescue.

McDowell is an undergraduate student at the University of Washington who was awarded a scholarship for her work as an HIV and AIDS volunteer in Tanzania.

Hanson is recent graduate of Archbishop Murphy High School who will attend Gonzaga University in the fall. He was honored by BECU for his work with the Archdiocese of Seattle’s Youth Convention.

Perry is a recent graduate of graduate of Snohomish Senior High School who will attend the University of Washington in the fall. He was recognized for his role as a flood relief volunteer.

Savage is a recent graduate of Snohomish Senior High School who will attend Johnson and Wales University in the fall. He won a scholarship for his work with the Ecologically Sound Trail Project.

Lynnwood student on CLU dean’s list

Caitlyn Melillo of Lynnwood was one of 500 students from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, Calif., who made the dean’s honor list for spring semester.

Melillo is a sophomore majoring in art.

Students qualify for the dean’s list by maintaining a 3.6 grade-point average in their academic subjects.

Snohomish student in engineering contest

Kris Olson, a mechanical engineering student from Snohomish, recently competed in the Western Washington Baja SAE Competition with a team from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.

The contest pitted the School of Mines against more than 80 teams from across the country and around the world and tested the team’s ability to design, fabricate and race an off-road vehicle.

The School of Mines Hardrocker Gold team finished in second place overall at the competition.

UW grad earns med school scholarship

Tavis Dickerson-Young, a 2006 graduate from Mariner High, recently graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry.

He plans to attend the University of Southern California’s Keck Medical Program, where he has been offered a full financial scholarship.

Lions Club grants scholarships to six

Six south Everett area high school seniors were recently awarded scholarships by the South Everett Lions Club.

The seniors from Cascade High School who received $1,000 scholarships were Danh Huynh and Mai Phuong Le. Scholarship recipients from Mariner High School were Miriam Ayala, Eden “Susie” Fanuel, Miguel Fierro and Mariam Ibrahim, who each received $500 scholarships.
